Using it
How long does it take?
A very blunt knife takes a few minutes the first time. After that, a touch-up once a month takes about one minute.
Which angle should I use?
20° for most European knives and anything you're not sure about. 15° for Japanese knives, which are ground thinner. The block has one of each.
Will it damage my knives?
No. The magnet holds the angle steady and the diamond disc takes off only as much metal as it needs. Pull-through sharpeners remove far more.
How often should I sharpen?
Every one to three months for a home cook. If you have the strop, a few passes every week or two keeps the edge keen in between.
Is it safe?
The magnet holds the knife and your hand holds the roller, well away from the edge. Keep fingers clear, keep the magnets away from bank cards and pacemakers, and keep the kit out of reach of children.
How do I clean it?
Wipe the discs with a damp cloth and let them dry. Don't soak the wooden roller or put it in the dishwasher.
Do the discs wear out?
The diamond disc lasts years of home use. If you want an even finer edge, the fine disc pair fits the same roller.
Your knives
What does it sharpen?
Chef's knives, santokus, paring, utility and carving knives, in stainless or carbon steel, European or Japanese double-bevel.
What doesn't it sharpen?
Serrated bread knives, scissors, ceramic knives and single-bevel Japanese knives.
My knives are cheap. Is it worth it?
Yes. A sharp inexpensive knife cuts better than a blunt expensive one, and the kit costs less than replacing a knife block.
Delivery
When will it arrive?
7 to 12 working days after you order. Delivery is free and tracked, and you'll get the tracking link by email when it's dispatched.
Where does it ship from?
From our manufacturing partner's warehouse outside the UK. All taxes are included in the price, so there's nothing to pay on delivery.
Will it arrive before Christmas?
Order by 4 December. After that, we email you a printable gift card straight away so you have something to wrap.
Do you deliver outside the UK?
Not yet. We deliver to England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland only.
Guarantee and returns
How does the guarantee work?
If your knives aren't sharper within 60 days of delivery, email us with your order number and we'll refund you in full. You don't need to send it back.
Can I change my mind?
Yes. You have 14 days from delivery to cancel for any reason, and we'll refund you in full without asking for the kit back.
What if it arrives damaged?
Send us a photo and we'll replace it or refund you, whichever you prefer.
Orders
How can I pay?
Card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal. Checkout is run securely by Shopify.
Can I send it as a gift?
Yes. Enter their address as the delivery address. Parcels are sent straight from the warehouse, so add your own note when you give it.
